Hydroponics Growing guide – For the home grower
Hydroponics Growing guide for Growing fruits and vegetables can be as easy as you want it or as challenging as you want it to be. As defined, hydroponics is the technique of growing plants without the use of soil. Instead, an inert medium is utilized which therefore accommodates a nutrient solution that bears all of the essential elements which are essential in the normal progression of the plant. In hydroponics, water is the main medium and other mediums are used to help support the plants while they are growing.
Why Hydroponics?
Requires less space to grow
Conserves water
Produces more vegetables
Less labor-intensive
No soil needed
There are many more reasons
Hydroponic Systems
Deep Water Culture.
Wick system
Nutrient film technique (NFT)
Ebb and flow system
Drip systems
Aeroponics
These are the main systems that are in use today. I will go into each system further, later in this post.
Space Allocation
Because in the hydroponics system plants are grown in water, nutrient intake is more efficient, so plants can be grown closer together. Being able to be grown closer together means less space is used. Hydroponic plants are usually grown under some sort of shelter. The setup can be as large as you want or as small as you want.
Because hydroponics plants are usually grown indoors, you will have an all-year growing season. Other than making sure you provide the correct amount of nutrients, your other two concerns will be environmental control. Meaning you will have to maintain the correct temperature for the type of plants you are growing and if necessary provide additional lighting.
Conclusion
Hopefully, you have a basic understanding of hydroponics and are willing to learn more so that you can start your very own hydroponic growing system. I will cover each of the main systems.
