Hydroponic System Reviews
Assembly
I have now assembled the VIVOSUN 72 site Hydroponic Grow Kit. Assembly was straight for, relatively easy. The unit was shorter than I expected, the water return pipe outlet was kinda low which meant that I would have to use a shallow water reservoir if I wanted to utilize a large tank. A timer came with the water pump, which was nice. I had to make a frame over the top level so I could hang my LED grow lights.
The setup
The water is pumped into a PVC assembly that splits the water between the two grow channels. The grow channels are not daisy-chained together. There are at least two other connectors that are modified so that the water is channeled to the second level. The pump is very small with maybe a 3 to 4 feet pump height limit. I have integrated this into my aquaponic system.
Water pumps
Disappointed that I could not use the pump from my existing system because the fitting was incompatible. I basically have the larger pump, pumping through my modified clarifier and nitrite/nitrate system and I’m using the small pump to pump into the VIVOSUN. I was hoping to just use one pump for the whole system. The input and output connector seem to be glued because I could not adjust them so I sent an email to VIVOSUN to verify, and their response was no, none of the connections are glued.
I guess if I want to adjust them I have to use a lot more force (which I don’t want to do). It comes with 72 net cups and 72 sponges for your plants. I’m not a big fan of the square net pots, for 2 reasons. Reason number 1, they are square reason number 2, the bottoms are open, meaning when I run out of sponges I won’t be able to use anything like clay pebbles, vermiculite, or any other loose medium. I planted my first 18 plants, we’ll see how it goes.
